How to Undo a Bank Feed Match in QuickBooks Online

Published October 19, 2026 · LedgerMedic

To undo a bank feed match in QuickBooks Online, open Banking, go to the Categorized tab (it may be called Reviewed on your screen), find the transaction, and choose Undo. The bank line goes back to For Review, ready to be matched properly. The menu names move between releases, so treat the steps as a guide.

The manual fix, step by step

  1. Open the bank account's feed. Go to Banking and select the account the line came through.
  2. Find the line. Open the Categorized tab and search by amount, date or payee. Matched and added lines both live here.
  3. Check its status first. If the transaction has a reconciled mark, Undo may be unavailable. Undo the reconciliation that includes it, or ask your accountant if the period is closed. Do not delete the transaction to get around it.
  4. Choose Undo. Expand the line and select Undo. It should reappear under For Review.
  5. Check what was left behind. Open the register for the bank account and Undeposited Funds. If the line had been matched, the original payment or deposit should still be there. If it had been added, the record the add created should be gone. If an invoice was marked paid by the match, open it and confirm its status is what you expect.
  6. Re-match it correctly. On the For Review line, choose Find other matches and select the right record. If the bank line is a payout made of several payments, build the deposit from Undeposited Funds first, then match to that deposit.

Match versus Add

The most common reason people need Undo is picking Add on a deposit that should have been matched. Add records a brand-new transaction, so the original payment stays in Undeposited Funds and the same money is counted twice. Match links the bank line to a record that already exists. If you undo an add and the original payment is still sitting in Undeposited Funds, you are back to a clean starting point. If the duplicate stayed in the books, see duplicate deposits.
